Its that time of year again where everyone is waiting for the big announcement of the next version of Apple's iPad, the iPad 3. Reuters announced today that Apple will be revealing the next version of iPad sometime in the first week of March, which isn't too far away!
Of course all of this is really just rumors and speculation as all of the sources of this new announcement are unnamed and so it he the city where this launch will take place.
Introducing the Apple iPad 3...
The most likely place and town will be he Yerba Buena Center in San Franscisco which is where Apple seems to prefer doing its launches.
Apparently Apple has declined to comment on any of these rumors.
In the past Apple has introduced previous versions of iPad in the first months of the year and the iPad 2 was announced on March 2nd of 2011 which makes this "rumor" to be completely believable.
The iPad still dominates the tablet market though Android and other competitors are quickly making inroads to this new and very lucrative market space. Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes and Nobles Nook both color Android tablets sell for about half the cost of an iPad and have seen significant sales over last Christmas season. Though reviews of both the Fire and Nook show that you get what you pay for in these scaled down iPad "wannabe's". Even the apps that run on both devices are scaled down specifically to run on these devices and both Amazon and B&N have their own market places with limited apps that will run on these devices.
But Christmas was good to Apple too as sales for the Apple iPad tablet doubled in the December quarter to 15.43 million units over the previous year.
Apple iPad 3 Features
Some of the new features expected in the iPad 3 are the new A6 processor, Siri, iOS 5, Cloud storage, 3D and a new retinal display that is suggested to bring more clarity and higher resolution (2048 x 1536) to the iPad screen.
The new screen is also supposed to combat finger prints as this was one of the biggest complaints form current iPad users.
The new iPad 3 is also supposed to be lighter and thinner and have a longer battery life than the iPads of the past.
These features are a tall order for Apple but given their track record for Shock and Awe, the Apple iPad 3 will no doubt please a hungry tablet market.
